Attackers looking for revenue from advertising
These apps contain malware (viruses), open a web page, and the user must click Add. In a blog post, Wandera stated that the malware in these apps required users to click on ads without interacting with the user. The Trojan module is included in these apps. This allows attackers to generate revenue on a “pay per click” basis.
Google deleted 29 apps
Previously, Google recently removed 29 apps from the Play Store. Of the 29 apps that came out, 24 belonged to the “HideAd” category. This hides the icon after first opening and adds a shortcut to the home screen. According to Quickheel Security Labs, the purpose of these apps is that users can't easily uninstall apps and users don't get the option to drag apps to uninstall apps. He can delete the app shortcut, but the app is still installed on the device.
The remaining five apps belong to the “Adware” category and reach the device with the help of advertisements displayed on Android smartphones. Users see ads every time they visit social media sites like YouTube and Facebook that promote various mobile applications.
